BMW bikers from a Grimsby dealership will ride 1,400 miles to Germany and back next month.

Astle BMW Motorrad’s Manager Tony Heys will lead three customers and Motorrad technician Phil Odlin on the trip, which will set off from the dealership at Grimsby Road, Laceby on 3rd July.

The five riders, each with a pillion passenger, will head to Folkestone where they will meet up with around 200 other riders and their passengers for the ferry trip across the Channel to the BMW Motorrad Days 2012 festival at Garmisch Partenkirchen in Germany.

Around 40,000 riders are expected to attend event, which includes live music, food and drink and bike shows.

Tony (48) will be taking his wife Michelle (42) on the trip. “This will be the first time I’ve done a ride out from Astle with some of our customers,” said Tony, who will be riding an R1200 GS.

“The tour is hosted by BMW Motorrad UK and covers some of the finest riding roads through France and Germany.

“A trip like this is heaven for a BMW rider. We all know how good the bikes are, and having more than a week of riding is a chance to test out the precision engineering and comfort they offer.

“We will be based in a four-star hotel near the event itself, where we can come and go as we please, enabling us to enjoy all the entertainment at the festival.”

After crossing into France there will be two overnight stops on the way to Garmisch Partenkirchen, followed by two nights at BMW Motorrad Days, with two further stops on the ride home.

The route will take in Verdun in France, the Vosges Mountains which extend from the German border into France and the Black Forest in Germany.

Astle customer Nick Proctor, who brought his first BMW last year after seven years away from biking, said it will be the trip of a lifetime. “The adventure of going away with a load of BMW bikers will be a great experience,” said Nick, who is retired from the police and lives in Tealby. “I’m really looking forward to getting out on the bike for such a long stretch.”
