GET INTO THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT WITH CANDLES
News release
24th November 2011
Roast turkey and all the trimmings will be on the menu at the Candles Ladies’ Christmas Lunch at the Bentley Hotel in South Hykeham next month.
The event on Thursday 1st December at 12.30pm includes a two-course meal, live entertainment by singer Ben Moss and a raffle.
The lunch is being organised by Friends of Candles which provides members with information about Candles’ fundraising events, the work being carried out by the charity and treatments for cancer.
Lincoln charity Candles, which has raised over £600,000 for cancer research, recently celebrated its 10th birthday with an anniversary ball at the Bentley Hotel.
The fundraising charity was founded in 2001 by Pam Connock and Dyllys Firth from Skellingthorpe after they underwent treatment for the disease.
The charity fundraises for Professor Oleg Eremin, based at Lincoln County Hospital, and his research into immunotherapy – an alternative cancer treatment that uses the body’s immune system to fight disease rather than treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
“This is the fourth time we’ve run this event and owing to popular demand this year we’ve had to move to a larger venue to accommodate more guests,” said Kath Ledgard, organiser of Friends of Candles.
“We usually raise around £400 at this event and we’re hoping to better that total this year - every little helps! The support and generosity we’ve received so far has been amazing and I’m looking forward to what is always a lovely day spent with the ladies enjoying a delicious Christmas lunch.”
Membership of Friends of Candles costs £10 a year. For more information about how to get involved with Friends of Candles or to make a reservation at the Ladies’ Christmas Lunch call Kath Ledgard on 01522 750459.
