23rd June 2011

The Old Station Nursery in Faringdon has been given a pat on the back by Ofsted inspectors after a recent visit.

Early years provision at the nursery has been given a ‘good’ rating overall after an inspection by the regulating body.

The inspector found that the nursery “supports children well overall in making good progress in their learning and development”.

Provision for the babies and under twos received particularly high praise in the report which stated that “innovative touches” have been made to the environment which creates a “homely feel”.

The rooms were described as having “an excellent range of resources that are used to provide a stimulating environment full of interesting sensory experiences.”

The inspector also commented in her report that “children make exceptionally strong progress in learning about safety and healthy lifestyles” and benefit from “a stimulating outdoor play area” and a “kitchen with a five-star environmental health rating”.

It was also noted that “staff engage well with parents” who “speak highly of the nursery” and that “children’s behaviour is excellent” and “relationships across the nursery are exceptionally warm”.

The report for the Faringdon nursery follows the recent Ofsted inspection at the nursery group’s Lincoln Marina setting which was also awarded a rating of ‘good’.

Managing Director Sarah Steel said: “I’m thrilled with the result of the report. The team at Faringdon work hard to create an excellent environment for the children to learn and develop in.

“The manager, Liz Clements, and the rest of the staff are so enthusiastic and are always looking forward at how things can be improved in the nursery, and that attitude is reflected in the healthy, happy children we have that attend there.”

Before and after-school care is also offered at the nursery for children up to the age of eight and play schemes are run during the school holidays, depending on demand.

An after-school club is run from Monday to Thursday from 3.15pm to 6pm, term-time only.
