Managers of GP practices learned how to save money and stay on the right side of the taxman at a Duncan & Toplis event yesterday (Thursday).

The event was held at the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa by the specialist healthcare team at Duncan & Toplis and brought together expert speakers to guide delegates through a range of financial issues.

Mark Brown of cost reduction specialists BCR Associates explained how to save money on essential spend and led delegates through the minefield of comparisons relating to energy and telecom contracts.

Adrian Audis from NHS England Local Area Team for Lincolnshire and Leicestershire spoke on matters affecting the funding of GP surgeries and the new premises cost directions which provide guidance on how the costs of GP premises are reimbursed.

Matt Herd and Christine Newitt from Duncan & Toplis explained how to stay the right side of the taxman and looked at the trickier areas of tax where things can and do go wrong.

A Question Time style panel sparked questions about online banking, how to protect the practice against financial fraud, the importance of internal financial governance and the impact of social media on employment policies.

“This was the second event that we have run specially for managers of GP practices and those who attended felt that the day was informative and very interactive,” said Christine, a Partner at Duncan & Toplis based in Boston.

“It was an excellent seminar, very informative and straight to the point,” said Zara Coupland from Hawthorn Medical Practice in Skegness. “I cannot wait for the next one!”
