One of Boston’s leading food producers is hoping to retain the Boston Business Award it won last year for its high environmental standards.

Freshtime UK won the Green Award at last year’s event and the company is shortlisted for the same prize this year.

The awards, which are in their fifth year, will be presented at the Princess Royal Sports Arena on Thursday 28th November 2013. The event will be compered by BBC Radio Lincolnshire presenter Melvyn Prior.

“We recognise that many of our activities have an impact on the environment and we aim to conduct our business and operations to reflect best environmental practice,” said

Freshtime’s Health, Safety and Training Co-ordinator Graham Dayes.

“Just 0.14% of our waste is sent to landfill and changes we’ve made to the way we use packaging means that we have currently saved 312 tonnes of CO2 from entering the environment.

“We have also set up a tracker system which shows our monthly energy usage and waste streams and compares them to our 2012 base year to measure improvements and trends,” Graham added.

“This has shown a 17% improvement in CO2e emissions per tonne of product produced in the current year, and an overall improvement of 43% of total emissions for 2013.”

Peter Bateson, chairman of the awards organising committee, said: “These awards are a great opportunity for businesses to profile and highlight the successes they are enjoying and the contributions they make to our great town.

“Too many people often shy away from putting themselves in the spotlight – but this really is a chance to change that and let everyone know there really are some fantastic businesses out there.”

Tickets for this year's event are available from Linda Clark on 01636 673731 or email linda.clark@chattertons.com
