News Release

8th November 2011

For the second year running Lincolnshire-based PR agency Shooting Star PR has taken on a student from the University of Lincoln to be part of its Rising Star trainee scheme.

Lucy Bingham from Felixstowe, Suffolk is halfway through her Journalism and Public Relations degree and is the second part-time intern to be taken on by the company.

While studying for her A-Levels, Lucy undertook work experience with the Corporate Affairs department at the Port of Felixstowe which is where she first discovered her passion for PR.

The 19 year-old is also currently Lifestyle Editor for student publication The Linc and part of the Marketing, Advertising and PR society at the university. Lucy is also a member of a small student PR agency set up by University of Lincoln lecturer Jane Crofts.

Commenting on Lucy’s internship, Jane said: “I am delighted that Shooting Star PR has selected another Lincoln undergraduate as its Rising Star and I wish Lucy well.

“Opportunities like this for work experience give our graduates the edge in the employment market as demonstrated this year by a higher proportion than ever securing PR jobs on graduation. It is great that we can continue this partnership.”

Lucy, who is working one day a week at Shooting Star PR while completing her studies, said: “I’m so happy that I’ve got this placement; it’s a brilliant opportunity to gain valuable skills in the industry.

“I feel completely focused on my future after university now and look forward to spending the year with everyone at Shooting Star PR.

“This is an opportunity for me to learn from professionals. I know I can gain a lot from this experience and I think it’s a good link between the local business community and the university.”

Kate Strawson, one of the Directors of Shooting Star PR, said: “In 2010 we appointed our first ever Rising Star, Carly Smith, who now works for an international PR and advertising agency.

“The scheme was such a success that we were keen to find our next PR star of the future and Lucy fitted the bill perfectly. She’s keen, talented and has already achieved a lot in a short space of time.

“We think she’ll be a real asset to the business and hope she’ll develop skills during her time with us that will stand her in good stead for a career in PR.”
