News Release

9th December 2013

Dogs and owners dressed in red Santa outfits will be raising money for rescue dogs without a home this Christmas.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has teamed up with organisers of Lincoln's annual Santa Fun Run and Walk to launch the first Danwood Doggy Dash.

This year there is a dedicated start and finish line for the four-legged entrants that will complete the annual 3K Santa Fun Run route around the Bailgate on 15th December.

Anyone registered to take part can bring their dogs at no extra cost but are asked to register their dog as taking part before the day.

“We want to make Christmas extra special for dogs without a home,” said Catherine Foster, Head of Fundraising for Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

“If you and your dog are taking part this year why not raise some money for unwanted and abandoned dogs at the same time? Funds raised will go toward treats and toys to make Christmas extra special for over 160 dogs in our care.

“Come and speak to our dog behaviour expert for advice or information, pick up a free goody bag or give your dogs a drink at our stand outside Lincoln Castle. We look forward to seeing you there,” she added.

“We are delighted that Jerry Green Dog Rescue has come on board for this year’s event”, said Chris Illsley, Race Director on behalf of the Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia and CEO of Running Imp.

“For the first time dogs have their own event with their own special Doggy Dash medals (in addition to the medal presented to their human) and their own finish line. There is also a fancy dress competition with prizes for the dogs in the best festive themed costumes.

“We are encouraging all dog walkers taking part to raise money for Jerry Green Dog Rescue who do fantastic work with our canine friends. We would encourage both those yet to enter and those who have already entered to bring along their pets for a great event for a great cause.”

Notes to editors:

The Santa Fun Run is organised by Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia with the assistance of Running Imp. It raises money for charities such as Alzheimer's Society, St Barnabas Hospice, British Heart Foundation (Lincoln), Samaritans (Lincoln), Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and Candles.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.

The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.

The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding.  This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
