News Release

11th October 2011

Lincolnshire children’s charity Kids Strut is hoping it will be game, set and match when they attempt to set a new Guinness World Record™ – but they urgently need your help!

The charity based on Outer Circle Road in Lincoln is urgently appealing for volunteers to take part in a Guinness World Record™ attempt for the most people bouncing tennis balls on tennis rackets in one location.

The record, initially set in Oldham, was 383 but in August a new record was set at 658 by top ranked German tennis player Andrea Petkovic and American tennis pro Mardy Fish at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, home of the US Open.

This latest attempt to win the record back for the UK will take place on Sunday 30th October at David Lloyd Gym and Fitness Centre on Burton Waters in Lincoln as part of a Charity Challenge Gala.

Volunteer Fundraising Chairman at Kids Strut and Senior Partner at Mundys estate agents in Lincoln Philip Barnatt, said to be sure of breaking the record they need around 800 volunteers.

“The main aim of the day is to raise lots of money for Kids Strut who provide such vital respite care for disabled children and young people, but there’s also an element of Anglo- American rivalry,” explained Philip.

“The record was originally set in England and we want to bring it home to the UK but to do this realistically we need 800 people who are capable of bouncing a ball on a tennis racket continuously for 10 seconds.

“People need to register by 21st October to guarantee their place and as an added incentive the first 200 to sign up will receive a free five day pass for David Lloyd Gym and Fitness Centre in Lincoln and be entered into a draw to win six months’ free membership.

“Fingers crossed enough people will come forward but either way it’s going to be a great day out for the whole family. As well as the Guinness World Record™ attempt there’ll be tennis-related challenges and games for children so please come along and help us to raise lots of money for this very worthwhile cause.”

Those interested in taking part in the attempt are can register online at www.charitychallengegala.co.uk or by filling in a form which is available from Kids Strut on Outer Circle Road or Mundys estate agency on Silver Street in Lincoln.

Participants are also requested to collect a minimum of £10 sponsorship or make a donation of £5 towards the charity on the day. Sponsorship forms are available online or in person from Kids Strut or Mundys.

Anyone who can’t attend the event but still wants to make a donation can do so online at www.justgiving.com/kidsstrut
