Dog lovers have one last chance to visit Jerry Green Dog Rescue in East Yorkshire before a major refurbishment project takes place.
Work will start on a £180,000 scheme to redevelop the Gilberdyke rescue centre on Monday 30th September – the day after the centre opens its doors to the public.
The open day at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in East Yorkshire will take place from 11.30am until 4.30pm on Sunday 29th September.
The event will feature a barbecue, Pooches’ Patisserie (baked treats for dogs), a fun dog show, a dog demo, canine first aid, a children’s treasure hunt, a raffle and trade stands.
Work to improve the facilities on site will create a new reception, staff room and training barn and two new ‘Meet & Match’ rooms where potential adopters can be matched with homeless dogs in a calm and quiet environment.
The refurbishment is being funded by donations and financial support from the charity but funds are still required to complete the project and Jerry Green Dog Rescue is asking dog lovers to donate £10 to sponsor a brick in the new development.
The work is being carried out by Williams Homes Ltd and is due to be completed in December. The centre will remain open throughout the redevelopment.
If you would like to make a donation to support the development you can pay £10 to sponsor a brick. Send a cheque made out to Jerry Green Dog Rescue to the East Yorkshire Centre, Bennetland Lane, GilberdykeHU15 2TNor visit http://www.justgiving.com/JGDR-East-Yorkshire-Appeal
Case study
Ren has been living at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in East Yorkshire for some time. He’s a very clever dog who knows lots of tricks.
“Ren is always very shy around new people but when he starts to relax, he really comes out of his shell!” said Lorraine Walton, Manager of Jerry Green Dog Rescue in East Yorkshire.
“He can almost knock you over when he comes for a cuddle. Once Ren trusts you, he’s your friend for life and is one of the cuddliest, most loving dogs at the centre.
“He seems to enjoy the company of other dogs and usually gets very excited and playful, so Ren’s ideal home would be one which has an older, more experienced dog that can guide him through the rest of his dog years. A home that is somewhere quiet, with few visitors, would be perfect for him.”
Notes to editors:
Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations:
- Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
- Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire
- Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire
- Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
- Thirsk, North Yorkshire
Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
