A happy workforce is a productive workforce, so they say – and a new survey has revealed that job satisfaction is on the rise at leading chartered accountancy practice Duncan & Toplis.

The survey showed that overall satisfaction among the Duncan & Toplis team has increased by seven percentage points while employee engagement has risen by nine percentage points since 2010.

The number of strengths identified by employees has gone up 20 percentage points while the number of weaknesses has fallen by 29 percentage points over the same period.

Duncan & Toplis has conducted an outsourced employee survey every three years since 2007 to identify improvements that can be made and to provide the team with a confidential voice.

“We want to ensure that our team is happy and fully engaged and this regular survey opens up an excellent communication channel with them,” said Debby Brewin, a Director of Duncan & Toplis responsible for HR.

“We can also use the results to compare our performance with previous years and make sure that we are constantly improving as a business when it comes to looking after our employees.

“There are lots of positives to discuss with the team and we will be working with them to look at areas where we can improve further.”

The survey revealed significant improvements across the board, including:

  • Strengths up from 19 per cent in 2010 to 39 per cent in 2013
  • Weaknesses down from 35 per cent in 2010 to 6 per cent in 2013
  • Overall satisfaction up from 67 per cent in 2010 to 74 per cent in 2013
  • Employee engagement up from 65 per cent in 2010 to 74 per cent in 2013
  • Response rate up from 83 per cent in 2010 to 86 per cent in 2013
