PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

27/07/2012

Playing Brazilian soccer and milking a cow are two activities not normally associated with each other but children at Playday 2012 in Welwyn Garden City will be able to have a go at both!

On 1st August Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is organising a free event in Stanborough Park as part of the national Playday campaign which celebrates children’s right to play and highlights the importance of play in children's lives.

Between 10am and 4pm local Children's Centres will be running lots of fun activities and workshops around the Change 4 Life programme, including go-karting, Zumba and cheerleading.

In line with the healthy eating and healthy lifestyles theme leading school milk supplier Cool Milk will be inviting youngsters to try their hand at milking a model cow and handing out free cartons of semi-skimmed milk.

Plus there will be a Cool Milk story reading corner, dance workshops, face painting, arts and crafts, a bouncy castle and rowing boats.

Organised by the council, in partnership with CHILD UK, Gosling Sports Park, Finesse Leisure and local Children's Centres, it will be a day to remember for all the family, from toddlers to teenagers to parents.

Cool Milk runs school milk schemes on behalf of schools in the UK and deals with the administration, paperwork claims and deliveries so school teaching staff can get on with the most important task – teaching.

Managing Director John Sedgwick said the company is delighted to be supporting the event.

“Playday is a very worthwhile campaign as play is fundamental to children's enjoyment of childhood and vital to their health, wellbeing and development. Similarly the school milk scheme provides a host of benefits to children. Not only does milk provide energy and key nutrients to help them do their best, it also offers a variety of social opportunities.

“Studies have also shown that low-fat milk is more effective than water in rehydrating active children in the heat so it’s the perfect accompaniment for this type of activity-led event. The Cool Milk team is looking forward to a fun-filled day!”
