News Release

29th November 2011

University of Lincoln student Kirsty Pavely is the third Rising Star to join the team at Lincoln- based PR agency Shooting Star PR.

Currently studying in her second year for a degree in Marketing and Public Relations, Kirsty – from St Neots in Cambridgeshire – will be working one day a week with the agency alongside her studies.

The Rising Stars scheme was put in place to develop talent and put skills into practice to prepare the students for ‘real life’ work and give them the opportunity to gain valuable work experience.

Jez Ashberry, Director of Shooting Star PR, said: “It’s great to continue working alongside the university by taking on another undergraduate. Last year we took on one student on our Rising Star scheme and it was so successful that we decided to offer two placements this year.

“We hope Kirsty will gain beneficial skills whilst working with Shooting Star PR that will set her up with a great future career in public relations.

“She has been welcomed to the team and we think we’ll find her a great asset to the business with her keen, enthusiastic and hard working approach.”

Kirsty (19) said “I am thrilled to be given this amazing opportunity, to be part of such a successful agency and work with a brilliant team; it is such a great experience.

“I cannot wait to get involved and put 100% of my effort in. It has helped me to focus on my future career and already given me a taster of what to expect when I graduate.”

Kirsty has already gained experience working with Lois Burley PR in June 2011 and Shelan Communications the previous summer. She is also Vice-President of the MAPR Society (Marketing, Advertising & Public Relations) at the university and is part of a student PR agency, Cygnet PR, run by lecturer Jane Crofts.

Jane Crofts, Public Relations programme leader at the university, added: “In a competitive market it is crucial to gain work experience and this has put Kirsty in a good position for when she graduates.

“Shooting Star PR has set up yet another great opportunity for a student of the University of Lincoln and it is great to see a local business helping students gain skills in the industry.”
