Over seventy women will take part in a ladies’ golfing event next month to raise money for local cancer charity Candles.

The fundraiser will take place on Tuesday 6th September at Pottergate Golf Club near Branston and will include a traditional fish and chips lunch and a raffle.

The event is being organised by Friends of Candles, membership of which costs £10 a year to receive information about Candles fundraising events, cancer treatments and the work being carried out by the charity.

Candles is a fundraising charity for cancer research founded in 2001 by Pam Connock and Dyllys Firth from Skellingthorpe after they underwent treatment for the disease.

The charity fundraises for Professor Oleg Eremin, based at Lincoln County Hospital, and his research into immunotherapy – an alternative cancer treatment that uses the body’s immune system to fight disease rather than treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

“This is the fourth time we’ve run this event and it’s always a popular one – all the tickets have sold already,” said Kath Ledgard, Organiser of Friends of Candles. “Last year we raised £1,000 to go towards Professor Eremin’s work and we hope to raise at least the same sum again this year.

“It’s a chance for the ladies to get out on the golf course with some friends, have some fun and take part in some silly activities along the way including the longest drive with a 100-year-old club! All for a good cause!”
