News release

12th July 2012

Terms like cloud computing and digital tools might sound like gobbledygook to many of us – but now, businesses in East Lindsey can learn what they mean and how to get the most out of them as part of the new Online Revolution project.

A free seminar, Running a Business Digitally, will be held between 6pm and 7.30pm on 18th July at the Skegness Business Centre. It is the third in a series of five events being held at one of four Coastal Arts and Technology Hubs which are being piloted to provide networking opportunities and showcase different technologies available.

The free events are made possible through the Online Revolution project which is funded by the East Midlands European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and managed via Lincolnshire County Council.

"We want to give businesses in East Lindsey a chance to learn more about the digital technology which is available and how making the most out of services which are accessed via the Internet could help their firm," said organiser Dave Briggs from Spalding firm Kind of Digital.

“Cloud computing enables users to store files and software remotely, rather than on a hard drive or server at their office. It means that with an Internet connection your staff can access information from home, on the road, from clients' offices or even from a smartphone. It also means that staff who aren’t physically in the same area can work on projects together.

"We’ve deliberately organised the seminars to take place in the evening so that people won’t need to take valuable time out of the office to attend!"

Other hubs at Alford, Mablethorpe and Louth have been set up to host events so all areas of the district are covered. The hubs also offer one-to-one business surgeries delivered remotely, taking each business person through practical advice and guidance including the basics of how to set up a website, understanding social media and how to run business more effectively using digital and online tools.

Online Revolution aims to raise awareness of the potential of superfast broadband and stimulate demand for the service in the project's three target areas: Lincoln, Boston and East Lindsey.

Part of the wider £57m OnLincolnshire campaign to improve superfast broadband across the county, Online Revolution is offering free advice to help small businesses make the most of the Internet.
