A Lincolnshire solicitor has been appointed as Lincoln Business Club’s new Chairman.

The club’s members voted for Richard Hare from McKinnell’s Solicitors to be elected as Chairman at the recent annual meeting.

One of his first duties was to present two cheques for £150 each to local cancer charity Candles and the British Heart Foundation.

Pam Connock, founder of Candles, was there to collect the cheque. She said without the money from organisations like the Lincoln Business Club Candles would not be able to achieve half as much as it does.

“Despite the fact we are a small local charity so far we’ve managed to raise £660,000 which has been made possible thanks to the generosity of the people in this county,” explained Pam.

“It’s been a year of struggles but it’s also been a bumper year so thank you to everyone who has continued to support us despite the difficult financial situation.”

Nicky Elliott from the British Heart Foundation said the charity is very grateful for the money.

“I really appreciate the support of the business club members and so does the British Heart Foundation,” she said. “Donations like this are so important to our life-saving research.”

One of the main aims of Lincoln Business Club has been to raise money for charitable causes since it was founded in 2004.

Other charities which have benefited include the Nomad Trust, Hope (Hearts of Positive Energy) and the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

Richard Hare succeeds John Cawdell of Trent Valley Academy who had been Acting Chairman since April this year.

The next Lincoln Business Club meeting will be held on Friday 26thAugust 2011 at Lincoln City Football Club at 7am. Anyone interested in becoming a member can do so for free by registering on the website www.lincolnbusinessclub.co.uk.
