Nursery manager Louise Jenkins has won a coveted business award from her local business club in Gloucestershire.

Louise, who has been manager of The Old Station Nursery in Filkins for four years, won Business Person of the Year 2012 at Fairford and Lechlade Business Club on Friday (27thJanuary).

She was rewarded for her hard work and dedication to the nursery after parents and fellow staff recognised her commitment and nominated her for the award.

The Filkins nursery was also nominated in the Business of the Year category.

The Old Station Nursery appointed Louise as manager of its Filkins setting in 2007 and since then she has been an asset to the company. In 2008 the nursery was praised by Ofsted for its “strong staff team” and the “strong partnership” between the nursery and parents.

Sarah Steel, Managing Director of The Old Station Nursery, commented, “Under Louise’s management the nursery has increased from an initial occupancy of only 12 children to a thriving nursery with an excellent reputation and over 50 registered children on the books.

“Louise gives pupils the best start to education and as a result local reception class teachers are extremely enthusiastic about the ‘school readiness’ of children going to them from the nursery.

“Louise is an inspirational leader who always goes the extra mile, which is why she thoroughly deserves this award.”

Louise, who was delighted to have won the award, said, “It was such a lovely surprise. I love my job and the children I work with are a breath of fresh air. To hear the positive feedback people have said about me is wonderful.

“The people I work with are brilliant and I love seeing familiar faces on a daily basis. I thrive to provide a professional service where people feel welcome and cared for, so it is great to be rewarded for it!”

To be nominated for the award Louise had to receive testimonials from her employer, her colleagues and parents of the children at the nursery.

Chris Roberts, secretary of Fairford and Lechlade Business Club, said, “I think anyone working with children chooses a very demanding but rewarding career. Louise seems to really enjoy what she does and this award truly reflects that.

“This year we had more entries than ever before so she did exceptionally well against the competition. The nominees were all of a high standard and the rest will have the opportunity to run for the award again next year.”
