Make a Canine’s Christmas Wish Come True
News release
20 November 2013
Jerry Green Dog Rescue has launched its winter shoe box appeal to help make Christmas extra special for dogs without a home.
By donating a shoebox of doggie treats and toys to the charity, over 160 abandoned and unwanted dogs in care during the festive period will be able to enjoy Christmas.
Dog lovers across Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire can deliver their gifts to any of the charity’s five centres, or to the DoubleTree by Hilton in Lincoln and Hilton York, who are supporting the appeal this year.
“Whilst the dogs at our centres are well loved and looked after over Christmas, we want to make it extra special,” said Head of Fundraising at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Catherine Foster.
“This year we have teamed up with the DoubleTree by Hilton in Lincoln and Hilton York to make it easier for people to donate their shoeboxes. The two hotels offer a central drop off point, which will be more convenient for some who don’t have time to travel to our centres.
“The hotels have kindly offered to collect all donations which will be given to the dogs to enjoy while we look for a suitable new home for them.
“Our dogs really enjoy dog biscuits, gravy bones, chews, balls, ropes – anything that will help our dogs to enjoy a canine Christmas,” she added.
The Jerry Green Dog Rescue centres are in Blidworth near Mansfield, Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire, Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire, Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire and Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
Lincoln DoubleTree by Hilton is located at Brayford Wharf North, Lincoln LN1 1YW and Hilton York is located at One Tower Street, York YO1 9WD.
Any donations will be gratefully received up to Christmas and into the New Year. Supporters unable to make a drop-off point are invited to send in a cheque and the charity will make a purchase on their behalf.

Notes to editors:
Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
