The directors of a Lincolnshire property development company, who spent 12 days scaling the heights of Africa, have raised a grand total of £16,258.51 for charity.

Leigh Hall and Dean Wann from Manorcrest Homes in Skegness recently ascended Mount Kilimanjaro during a 12-day conquest which saw the two climb 5,895 metres above sea level to the summit of Africa’s tallest mountain – all while raising sponsorship money for Macmillan Cancer Support and When You Wish Upon a Star.

Leigh said: “We’ve fully recovered from our trek up Kilimanjaro and are very pleased to announce we’ve raised a total of over £16,000 for two very worthy causes.”

Dean continued: “We would like to thank every person and business that sponsored our awe-inspiring journey up Mount Kilamanjaro. Climbing Africa’s highest mountain and raising £16,000 for charity are no easy feats, but Leigh and I are proud to have conquered both.”

Macmillan Cancer Support, which the duo raised £7086.63 for, offers help to patients, carers and families dealing with cancer. The charity provides guidance, practical and emotional support, financial assistance and funding for nurses and other professional health care specialists.

Leigh and Dean also raised £9171.88 for When You Wish Upon a Star – a charity which works to grant the wishes of children aged from two to 16 years with terminal or life-threatening illnesses.

Manorcrest Homes, the company for which Leigh and Dean are managing directors, was first established in 1996 and was awarded second place in the Daily Telegraph British Homes BuildQuality Awards 2011 in the Medium Development Category for the Lumley Fields development in Skegness.

Manorcrest Homes was also nominated for the LABC (New Home Warranty Awards) for Excellence 2011 in the category of Development of the Year (1-10 units) and, in 2010, won LABC Best Developer of the Year.

Upon returning home from Africa at the end of October 2011, the excitement continued for Leigh and Dean as they prepared for the grand-opening of the DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln on Brayford Wharf North – which opened its doors on 30thDecember 2011.

Along with Richard Farrar, who runs independent hotel management company leaf HOSPITALITY, Leigh and Dean have formed Brayford Hotels – the company behind the hotel development.
