New Chairman for Lincolnshire Sports Partnership

Businessman and former newspaper editor Jon Grubb has been appointed as Chairman of a charity aimed at increasing sports participation.
As Lincolnshire Sports Partnership’s Chairman, Mr Grubb will guide the Board of Trustees and Directors, promote the work of the partnership and become the face of the well established sports charity in Lincolnshire.
Mr Grubb is the owner and managing director of Grubb Street Media and has worked in the media industry for 22 years. His career has included time in newspapers in Buckinghamshire, Gloucester and Nottingham.
For the last ten years he has been an editor on Lincolnshire newspapers, both in Scunthorpe and latterly in Lincoln. During the five years editing the Lincolnshire Echo, the paper accrued a number of national and regional press awards and accolades for its design and content.
He is currently a Senior Visiting Fellow of the University of Lincoln Business School and the Lincoln School of Journalism, member of the Lincoln Cathedral Business Advisory Group, lay governor at Lincoln College, member of the Lincolnshire Business Convention organising committee, member of the Board of Lincolnshire Crimestoppers and Chairman of Lincoln Book Festival.
Mr Grubb said: “I’m passionate about the county. It’s a fantastic place to live and work and having grown up and worked here I want to do something to help enhance the excellent quality of life.
“Sport and physical activity is important to the health and well-being of the community and our elite athletes can bring pride and recognition to the area. I’m excited about the prospect of contributing to that. Lincolnshire Sports Partnership already does fantastic work and I want to help that success continue.”
Lincolnshire Sports Partnership offers guidance and support to more than 1,000 voluntary and community sports groups across Lincolnshire. With its main aim of increasing participation in sport and physical activity, the organisation manages and delivers many different projects, in all areas of the county.
As the former Chairman of Visit Lincolnshire Mr Grubb also has a wide knowledge of the county, its people, geography and visitor economy. He grew up in Lincolnshire and attended school in Louth. He is married with two sons and lives in Heckington.
Barrie Pierpoint, the outgoing Chairman, retires on Wednesday 26th September at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership’s Annual General Meeting.
He has been instrumental in changing the partnership’s development strategy, making it a more modern-thinking and customer-focused organisation. He has overseen the development and modernisation of the partnership over the past three years and believes now is the time to move on.
Mr Pierpoint said: “I have enjoyed being Chairman at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership. I have spent the last three years developing and introducing new commercial opportunities and schemes to the partnership, helping them to find new revenue streams, but feel that now is the right time to go.”
Mr Pierpoint is known to football fans for his 10 years as Chief Executive Officer of Leicester City FC, taking the club from a loss-making £1m turnover to a £25m turnover business, and also as one of the men who helped Boston United Football Club in its darkest hour to hold the public meeting which led to current owners, David Newton and Neil Kempster, deciding to save the club.
Janet Inman, Chief Executive of Lincolnshire Sports Partnership is delighted with the appointment of Mr Grubb as Chair.

He brings a wealth of experience and local knowledge and I know he is very keen to ensure that we increase the number of people leading a healthy, sporting lifestyle across Lincolnshire. He will become the face of the business, promoting our work throughout Lincolnshire. Barrie has played a pivotal role as Chairman and we wish him well in the future.”
