NEW MANAGER TO ENSURE QUALITY CONTINUES

Parents with youngsters at The Old Station Nursery can feel even more secure their child is getting the best care after the group create a new role dedicated to ensuring quality.
Sam Waite has joined the group as Quality and Compliance Manager. Her appointment is part of plans to unify the business across all 13 settings, ensuring the 11 nurseries, the crèche and the after-school facility all maintain the same standards and deliver the same messages and values to children under their care.
It follows the appointment of Operations Manager Rachel Attwood in February, who is now responsible for the overall management of all the settings across Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Gloucestershire.
“I am delighted to join The Old Station Nursery and its wonderful team,” said Sam, who has been based at the Lincoln Marina setting since last week and will travel to the other facilities across the country.
“My main goal is to ensure that all the nurseries are supported in providing the same high level of quality care people expect. I’m lucky to have joined an excellent organisation.”
Sam joins The Old Station Nursery from Lincolnshire County Council’s Birth to 5 Service, which monitors, challenges, supports and provides training to settings within Lincolnshire catering for children in that age range. This includes support for schools, pre-schools, nurseries, children’s centres, day care settings and registered childminders.
Part of her role will be to train staff on revisions to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The guidelines have been radically slimmed down to make it easier to understand and more focused on making sure children start school ready to learn.
Changes include cutting the number of ‘learning goals’ from 69 to 17 and freeing up staff from ‘unnecessary bureaucracy’. The Government is due to respond in full to the recommendations this summer when it will consult on the EYFS. Changes will then come into force from September 2012 at the earliest.
“The roll-out of the revised EYFS will mean all settings need to be ready to deliver what is required of them by at least September, so I will be working with all care providers to ensure they know the best ways to work,” said Sam.
“So far, four of the pilot Ofsted inspections for the revised EYFS have been carried out at The Old Station Nursery settings, which gives us an opportunity to see where we could improve and what we need to champion.”
