4th September 2012

Duncan & Toplis, the leading East Midlands accountancy practice, has taken on four new members of staff at its offices in Newark to cope with an increased workload as the office develops.

Sarah Hill, Vicky Roe, Linda Evans and Daniel Smithson, who were all educated in Newark, have landed full-time jobs with the firm.

Sarah Hill (22) has been hired as an accounts assistant for Duncan & Toplis and will become a trainee accountant in September. She studied Mathematics at Newcastle University and graduated last summer with a 2:1 honours degree.

“Everyone is so helpful and I am really enjoying all the new skills and knowledge I am already learning here,” she said.

“This is my first job in accountancy and I feel privileged to be able to work here as a trainee accountant as my studies get under way.”

Vicky (29), who trained with the firm after leaving The Grove School in Newark, left for another accountancy firm in Lincoln in 2008 before returning to Duncan & Toplis this summer.

“After finishing maternity leave I felt it would be better for myself and my family if I worked locally. Having kept in touch with old colleagues it came to my attention that there may be an opportunity for me to return to Duncan & Toplis,” she said.

“I am very happy to be working at the firm that I first started my career with.”

Linda Evans (48) has been a qualified chartered accountant for many years, working in the south of the country before relocating to Newark and being hired by Duncan & Toplis as a accounts clerk last month.

“I had been looking for a new opportunity when I relocated. I was on holiday when I found out I had an interview, and from there I got this job,” she said.

“Already everyone is very friendly and I enjoy my role with so much of the work being computerised.”

Daniel Smithson (24) had been doing volunteer work for the Lincolnshire Credit Union before he joined Duncan & Toplis last month as an accounts assistant. He has a 2:1 degree in Accountancy and Finance from the University of Lincoln.

“I chose a job in accountancy as it suits my strengths and it is something I enjoy doing,” he said.

“I am really enjoying working for the firm. The office is full of friendly, welcoming people and I really relish working in accountancy as it gives me a great feeling of responsibility.”
