News release

3rd February 2014

The Old Station Nursery Group has translated its key information guide into six different languages to help the growing migrant community find suitable childcare.

The translations will be available in Czech, Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, Spanish and German at all of the group’s settings across Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.

Information will include opening hours, session times, fees, what to do if your child is sick, and details on the nutritional meals and drinks provided. It is hoped that that document will help mums and dads feel more confident in understanding the policies of the setting and how their child is looked after during the day.

Sarah Steel, Managing Director of The Old Station Nursery Group, said: “Sending your child to nursery can be a daunting prospect for any parent, and it must be even more so if English is your second language.

“Mums and dads want to be able to feel that they understand how the nursery looking after their little one operates, but some might struggle to read and process all of the important guidance notes we give to them.

“It made sense for us to move to a more inclusive system and translate our key information sheet into foreign languages so that all of our parents can get the information they need. This move was about responding to demand from a growing migrant community across the UK and ensuring that our group was proactive in changing times.”

The translated document will be handed out with The Old Station Nursery prospectuses and given to new parents when they sign up. The work was carried out by Comtec Translations based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

Director of Comtec Translations Sophie Howe, said: “We were delighted to carry out this work. For a nursery, it’s so important that they offer parents the chance to read information about the setting in their own language so they feel absolutely confident about sending their child there.”
