NURSERY MANAGER’S BUSINESS SKILLS REWARDED

Nursery manager Tracey Wilce of The Old Station Nursery at Imjin Barracks in Innsworth, Gloucester has been nominated in the Rising Star of the Year category of the 2012 Citizen and Echo Women in Business Awards.
Tracey became interested in working with children after becoming a mum, and entered the profession in 1995. She gained vocational qualifications while working on the job and slowly worked her way up before becoming Manager of The Old School Nursery at Imjin Barracks.
Despite her extensive managerial responsibilities, Tracey says she still loves working with children. “I still enjoy being ‘hands on’ with the children whenever possible as I find that the most rewarding part of the job,” she said.
The nursery, which opened 18 months ago, is for military families moving back from Germany as part of the headquarters of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, based at the barracks. Since taking on the role just before the nursery opened Tracey has built strong relationships with staff, parents, children and the community.
Sarah Steel, Managing Director of The Old Station Nursery Ltd, said Tracey had coped “fantastically” with managing various challenges such as a delayed opening, multinational families and a totally new staff team. Tracey said the past 18 months had been very challenging.
“As a team as we have had lots of different issues to deal with,” she said. “However we are now starting to feel settled and will continue to strive to move the nursery forward.”
Winners in each category of the Citizen and Echo Women in Business Awards 2012 will be announced at a gala evening on Thursday, March 29 which takes place at the Centaur, Cheltenham Racecourse.
