Oakham Student Gets Foot on PR Career Ladder

Oakham student Kim Hampton has joined Lincoln-based agency Shooting Star PR for a year on the company’s Rising Star internship scheme.
The Rising Star scheme aims to introduce talented and passionate PR students into the PR industry.
Kim (20) from Oakham in Rutland is studying for a degree in Public Relations and Journalism at the University of Lincoln and has just started her second year.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Kim on board and we’re sure her enthusiasm and her interest in current affairs will be an asset to us this year,” said Jez Ashberry, Director of Shooting Star PR.
In 2009 Kim achieved a Young Writers award while completing her A-levels at The Rutland College and was featured in an anthology which is written entirely by students.
She is a member of the Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations society (MAPR) at the University of Lincoln and is working on projects for the small student PR agency, Cygnet PR, run by lecturer Jane Crofts.
Kim, who is working one day a week at Shooting Star PR while studying, said: “I found my passion for PR through studying A-level Media Studies – I fell in love with the industry.
“I’m very happy to be working at Shooting Star PR; it’s a great opportunity and will give me invaluable experience that will give me the edge when applying for work in the future.
“I aim to be one of the best, and learning from professionals in a real environment will keep me focused on my goals. It will also give me useful contacts within Lincoln and make me feel like a part of the community.”
