Old Station Nursery Gets New Home in Newark

Staff and children from The Old Station Nursery in Newark are about to move into their new premises in a refurbished listed town house.
A launch party was held at Martin Forster House in Appleton Gate on Friday to celebrate the new site, which is just yards down the road from the nursery’s current location at Newark College.
Newark MP Patrick Mercer paid a visit to the new premises, which are expected to be open for business early next month.
Finishing touches such as putting up coat pegs and activity boards are being carried out in the next few weeks.
The idea behind the party was to give parents with youngsters a chance to look round the facilities before the final move. Parents can also arrange a viewing or pop along to an open evening on Wednesday 17th October between 5pm and 7pm.
Nursery Manager Alison Holmes said: “Everyone who has seen the setting so far, including children, staff and parents, has been very impressed.
“The building has lots of history and it’s been really well refurbished. The new setting will allow us spread our activities out across three floors, rather than the one large room which we currently have, and give us a separate room for the babies to be looked after. It’s also got a staff room, a new kitchen and office space.”
The move will allow the setting to increase the number of children it is allowed to care for from 30 to 60. The expansion plan also includes starting a new after-school club for children aged between five and 11 years old.
The Lincoln branch of Langleys Solicitors LLP worked with The Old Station Nursery to secure the new site.
The building was launched by Newark MP Patrick Mercer on Friday 12thOctober. He said: “The new nursery is exactly what working mothers need in Newark. I was incredibly impressed by the facilities that have been created and by the cheerfulness and charm of the staff.”
