Twelve Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) graduates are among staff at Holme Valley Primary School in Scunthorpe celebrating after being awarded the highest possible grading by Ofsted.

This news comes months after the university was ranked the second best university in the UK for graduate employability in national league tables.

The school was graded ‘Outstanding’ after its latest inspection by Ofsted.

“Our school has 12 teachers who have graduated from Bishop Grosseteste University – that’s nearly 90% of our staff,” said Judith Moorhouse, Headteacher at Holme Valley.

“I studied for my PGCE qualification at BGU and our school has always had a good relationship with the university. Students from BGU are often of a higher calibre and we do encourage applicants from the university when vacancies arise.

“Children are put at the forefront of everything we do and we’re always determined to help them reach their potential. We have a process by which staff can learn from each other to constantly improve their teaching; it’s this drive that has helped us to reach outstanding at our last Ofsted inspection,” she added.

Nigel Appleton, Dean of Teacher Development at BGU, commented: “We pride ourselves on the skills and knowledge we give our students so they can get the best possible start in their careers.

“Holme Valley Primary is just one example where our graduates have achieved great success in their career. Congratulations to everyone at the school for the recent outstanding grading from Ofsted.”
