Nursery worker Lynda Bon has been named runner up in her category at the National Day Nurseries Association awards after narrowly missing out on first place.

Lynda, who works at The Old Station Nursery in Filkins near Lechlade, was one of only three candidates in the country up for the Nursery Practitioner of the Year 2011 prize.

The NDNA awards are open to all nurseries across the UK and are the only nursery awards voted for by parents.

For the category of Nursery Practitioner of the Year parents were asked to nominate an outstanding individual who “has gone that extra mile and shown true dedication and commitment to caring for children”.

Practitioners were shortlisted based on the parents' comments, their qualifications and professional development. Over 5,000 nominations were received nationally.

Lynda said: “I wanted to say a big thank you to all the parents for their nominations and to all the staff for their support. It was a fantastic feeling to receive the recognition for my work and the awards dinner was a wonderful evening which I will remember for a long time. Now it’s back to business as usual!”

Lynda will was judged on her dedication and commitment to caring for children before attending the NDNA Nursery Awards Dinner, supported by Christie & Co, at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

Purnima Tanuku OBE, Chief Executive of NDNA, commented: “NDNA received thousands of nomination forms from around the UK from parents who were delighted with the care provided by their child’s nursery practitioner.

“Lynda did incredibly well to reach the finals, and her commitment, passion and dedication came through strongly to our panel of judges. We hope Lynda continues to enjoy a long and successful career in early years where she is so clearly appreciated by children and families.”

Nursery Manager Louise Jenkins said: “Lynda has worked at Filkins Nursery for more than 11 years and truly deserves this recognition from parents for all her hard work and commitment in her role.

“We are so proud of her achievement amid nationwide competition from nurseries and

pre-schools much larger than ourselves. It is lovely to know that the care Lynda gives to all our children is so highly valued by parents.”
