An abandoned terrier who is the face of a fund-raising appeal by Jerry Green Dog Rescue has found a new home.

Jimmy, a two-year-old Patterdale Terrier cross, was found tied up and abandoned outside of the rescue centre in Blidworth in June.

The rescue centre staff nursed Jimmy back to health and even though the recovery was slow his lovable character meant he was chosen as the furry face of the appeal for the new rescue centre the charity is planning in Nottinghamshire.

On Saturday (31st August) Jimmy was adopted by the Tyers family from Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, who came to collect him from the Blidworth centre.

Margot Tyers offered to adopt Jimmy after finding him on the Jerry Green Dog Rescue website. She has owned dogs all of her life but hasn’t had a dog in the family for five years.

“We looked on the Jerry Green website and saw Jimmy’s photo, and we liked him so much we came to have a look at him about five weeks ago,” she said. “We really fell for him – he’s quite a cheeky chappie and he has a really friendly character. Obviously it’s important for us to have a dog that gets on with children, which Jimmy does.

“We didn’t realise how famous Jimmy was until we said that we wanted to adopt him!”

Jimmy has been immortalised in the logo for the Stepping Stone to a New Home appeal. To make the dream of a new rescue centre in Blidworth become a reality Jerry Green Dog Rescue needs to raise £250,000 so they can help more dogs like Jimmy find a new home.

The new centre will increase capacity threefold and will allow the charity to look after and rehome dogs in much more comfortable and modern surroundings.

The charity welcomes donations of all sizes, but one simple way of supporting the appeal is by buying a brick for just £10. Corporate donations and sponsorship packages are also available.

13-year-old Harry Tyers is looking forward to taking Jimmy back to the family home and playing with him.

“We’ve already bought him lots of toys and we’ve all been up since six o’clock this morning, we’ve been so excited to go and get him!”

Sapphire McInnes, manager of Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Nottinghamshire, said: “It’s so lovely to see Jimmy back on his feet and heading off to a new life with his adoptive family.

“He was in a sorry state when we found him tied up outside the gate but after three months of love and veterinary care he’s back to his old self. The Nottinghamshire team is delighted that Jimmy has found a family to call his own and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Any donations go through the rescue’s JustGiving page: http://www.justgiving.com/NottsBuildAppeal.

Or you can make a donation directly at the Nottinghamshire rescue centre between Blidworth and Rainworth.

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations:

  • Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
  • Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
  • Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire
  • Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire
  • Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.

The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.

The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding.  This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
