12th December 2013

Eight-year-old Melissa Nwakalor has never seen snow before – but she’s looking forward to Christmas after winning a £50 voucher in a national competition.

Children at schools and nurseries across theUKwere asked to design a Christmas scene incorporating milk which the leading school milk provider Cool Milk could use on the front of its corporate Christmas cards.

Over 4,500 children aged between two and 11 at schools and nurseries across the country entered the competition and the winner was Melissa fromSt Joseph’s School inNottingham.

Melissa’s winning design, featuring a robin and a bottle of milk, was handpicked by Cool Milk’s Managing Director John Sedgwick.

“We were thrilled by the number of entries  we received to our annual Christmas card competition; this year we received  almost double the amount of entries as last year!” explained John.

“Milk is a great source of protein and calcium which helps to keep our bones strong. It also gives an energy boost in a way that does not harm teeth, aiding concentration, memory and creativity in class as Melissa’s card clearly demonstrates!”

Paul Kitson, Cool Milk Marketing Manager, presented Melissa with a £50 WHSmith voucher for her winning design at a special assembly held at St Joseph’s School on Wednesday (11thDecember).

“One of the reasons we run the competition every year is to encourage the children to think about the benefits of drinking milk as part of a healthy diet in a fun and meaningful way and Melissa’s card really encapsulates that,” said Paul.

Head Teacher atSt Joseph’s School Ian Eastwood added: “Melissa moved to theUKfromNigeriain September and has never seen snow or walked on ice; a robin was the most Christmassy thing she could think of! When she was presented with the voucher she was overwhelmed by how much she had won as she couldn’t comprehend that amount of money.”
