Pupils Draw on Milk for Inspiration
News Release
20th December 2012
Two youngsters aged nine and ten have won a national competition to design a Christmas card organised by leading school milk supplier Cool Milk.
To enter the competition children at schools and nurseries across the UK were invited to draw a Christmas scene incorporating milk which Cool Milk could use on the front of its corporate cards.
Over 2,500 children aged between two and 11 entered the competition which was jointly won by Holly Mayfield, aged nine, from Frisby Church of England Primary School in Melton Mowbray and Rebecca Everitt, aged 10, from Eastwood Primary School and Nursery in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.
The winners, who both received a WHSmith gift voucher, were picked by Cool Milk’s Managing Director John Sedgwick.
“We were delighted by the number and standard of entries we received to our annual Christmas card competition but felt that Holly and Rebecca’s designs put together were a winning combination,” explained John.
“We particularly liked the idea of Father Christmas drinking milk to help keep him strong so he can deliver presents all night long. One of the reasons we run the competition every year is to encourage the children to think about the benefits of drinking milk as part of a healthy diet in a fun way and this card really encapsulates that.
“Milk is a great source of protein and calcium which helps to keep our bones strong. It also gives an energy boost in a way that does not harm teeth, aiding concentration, memory and creativity in class as this card clearly demonstrates!”
Holly and Rebecca each won a £50 WHSmith voucher and 25 cards featuring their winning design to send out to friends and family. Both schools also received 25 cards to use how they wished.
Rebecca, who enjoys taking part in art and craft competitions, said she was very surprised to have won.
“I have won a few competitions before, but this is the best,” said Rebecca. “I think I will use my prize to buy some Christmas presents for my family.”
