News release

4th September 2012

After leaving school at 16 Rachel Sanders took an AAT apprenticeship with chartered accountants Duncan & Toplis in Newark and has now become a fully qualified accountant.

Rachel (21) spent five years as a trainee with the leading East Midlands accountancy practice and has now passed her final professional exams with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, becoming one of the youngest trainees to achieve this.

At school Rachel became interested in business and finance and realised she wanted to be an accountant. After passing her GCSEs she considered studying full-time at Lincoln College but decided that an apprenticeship with a local business was the best way forward.

“I thought about apprenticeships as an alternative route and began sending out my CV, which was when I found Duncan & Toplis,” said Rachel, who has lived in Newark for the past six years.

“I have enjoyed working at Duncan & Toplis for the past five years while studying for my exams and I’m looking forward to progressing my career further as a qualified accountant.”

Rachel has taken eight Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) exams and 11 Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exams over the course of her training to qualify as Certified Accountant.

Simon Shaw, Partner with Duncan & Toplis said “We are delighted with Rachel passing her professional exams at such a young age and we are confident that she will contribute to the continued growth of the firm in the years to come.”
