ROYAL NAME FOR NEW CARE HOME
News release
11th April 2012
An 86-year-old Kapil Care Homes resident has come up with a royal-themed name for a new 60-bed home currently being built in Scunthorpe.
Ronald Milson put forward the suggestion Balmoral House – which follows the royal theme of the company’s two other Scunthorpe homes Ascot House and Carisbrooke Manor – in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations this year.
Staff and residents at both homes were asked to come up with suggestions, with Mr Milson’s idea being chosen as the winner by the directors of Kapil Care Homes. The new purpose-built care home for the elderly is currently being built on Old Brumby Street in the town. It will be the third property owned and run by the family firm.
Mr Milson, who has lived at Ascot House for just over three years, said he is delighted his suggestion has been chosen. “To start with, I’m a Royalist through and through and I do believe that everything the Queen has done has been perfect, she’s never put a step wrong,” said Mr Milson, who also considered St Andrew’s as an option.
“I was in my room and I wrote out a list of possible names, crossing some suggestions off and adding some others until I thought I had a good selection.
“I finally decided to put forward the idea of Balmoral House because of my love for the royals and everything that’s happening this year with the Queen’s Jubilee – it just seemed very fitting. I also think that people of my generation will enjoy the name.”
Mr Milson lives at the care home with his wife of almost 60 years, Margaret. The couple have one daughter and two grandchildren. They lived in Bottesford near Scunthorpe before moving to the care home so they could have easy access to top-quality health care.
To celebrate his suggestion being chosen, Mr Milson donned a hard hat and enjoyed a guided tour of the facility which is close to being completed. “It looks tremendous, I think it will be wonderful when it’s complete,” added Mr Milson.
The newly-named Balmoral House is due to open in July. The building was designed by Scunthorpe architects C R Parrott Consultants Ltd and is being built by another Scunthorpe firm, G S Kelsey Ltd.
Managing Director of Kapil Care Homes Sunil Kapil said: “When it came to naming the new facility, we wanted to ask residents and staff what they thought as part of our philosophy to involve the people who live and work in our care homes.
“We were impressed with the names that were chosen and it was hard to whittle them down to one from the 16 excellent options we were given. I am very happy with this suggestion we’ve gone with. I think it is a very proud name and will inspire confidence in those coming to the home. It will be a beautiful place to live.”
