Royal Recognition for Beatson Clark Apprentice
News release
29th June 2012
Beatson Clark engineering apprentice Matt Lee rubbed shoulders with royalty at a lunch hosted in London to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee earlier this month.
Matt (19) was one of around 700 guests from all over the UK whose profession was represented by one of the different Livery Companies taking part in the lunch held on 5th June at Westminster Hall.
The invitation to have lunch with the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (William and Catherine) and Prince Harry meant a second visit to the capital for Matt in the space of six months.
In November he attended a dinner at The Mansion House in London to receive the Apprentice of the Year award from the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Michael Bear, and Martin Scarth, Master of the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers.
“It was a great honour and a privilege to be invited,” said Matt, who sat not far from Prince Charles at the lunch. “It really was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
The menu for the lunch featured the finest British ingredients, from Welsh mountain lamb and Uist Island salmon to Isle of Wight asparagus, while music was provided by the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain.
Matt completed 14 weeks of basic engineering training at Brinsworth Training Centre in Rotherham before joining Beatson Clark last year.
The internal training programme lasts from 12 to 18 months and covers every aspect of the business, from glass making, packaging and quality procedures to sales, marketing, accounting and customer relations.
