News release: 16th October 2012

Two University of Lincoln students have won prestigious internships with Shooting Star PR, based in the city.

The Rising Star scheme was created for students to develop talent and put skills into practice, giving them a leg-up in a competitive jobs market.

Rosie Kelly from Durham and Kim Hampton from Oakham will work one day a week with the agency whilst continuing their university studies.

PR and journalism student Kim said: “I found my passion for PR through studying A-level Media Studies – I fell in love with the industry.

“I’m very happy to be working at Shooting Star PR; it’s a great opportunity and will give me invaluable experience that will give me the edge when applying for work in the future.”

Rosie, who is studying English and Journalism, said: “It’s a great opportunity for me to broaden my horizons and experience another side to the media.

“I won’t be graduating into an easy labour market so it’s important to me to gain as much work experience as possible and make myself as employable as I can.”

Interns who have participated in the scheme in the past have gone on to work in PR at GlaxoSmithKline, Brandnation and RBP International and both students have distinguished academic records and extensive previous work experience in the media.

Director at Shooting Star PR, Kate Strawson, said, “We really enjoy working with university students as they bring so much enthusiasm and a different perspective.

“We’ve been really pleased with their contributions so far and we look forward to working with them this year.”
