LINCOLN, UK – 10th July 2012 – Key figures in Lincoln’s hotel and hospitality sector have joined forces to promote the city as a premier UK conference venue.

The Meet Lincoln steering group, which consists of representatives from DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln, Lincoln BIG (Business Improvement Group), The Lincoln Hotel, the Visit Lincoln Partnership, Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln, the University of Lincoln and the Lincolnshire Events Centre, will meet on a monthly basis to discuss how to better market the city to agencies and corporate event planners.

The group was initiated by DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln’s Sales and Marketing Manager Nicola Shepheard, Visit Lincoln Partnership Manager Emma Tatlow and Chief Executive of Lincoln BIG Matt Corrigan.

Nicola, who has over 10 years’ experience in the meetings, incentive travel, conference and events industry, said, “For a long time Lincoln has been overlooked by organisers despite having some fantastic venues such as the Lincolnshire Events Centre which is hosts the annual Lincolnshire show attracting around 65,000 people over two days.

“There are also plenty of incentive experiences including luxury spa breaks, adrenaline-fuelled activities, cultural experiences and fine dining.

“Following the opening of the DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln on Brayford Wharf North in December 2011 the city’s offering has been further improved, putting it on a par with the likes of Nottingham, Leicester and Sheffield, and we want to ensure that Lincoln gains the recognition it deserves.”

Visit Lincoln Partnership Manager, Emma Tatlow, said, “Lincoln has historically underperformed in the area of conference and business tourism but we hope that the growth of the city’s two universities and the arrival of an internationally recognised hotel brand will encourage event planners to seriously consider holding their event here.

“Lincoln and the surrounding area has a diverse range of options, from modern purpose-built venues such as the EPIC Centre which offers a total floor area of 1,836m² to the historic Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln which has state-of-the art conference facilities on its campus set in beautiful uphill Lincoln.

“Whether you’re looking for somewhere small and friendly or with the capacity and infrastructure to host a large-scale event, Lincoln is an ideal conference destination.”
