28th January 2013

Chartered accountants Duncan & Toplis and the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce are taking a snapshot of the Lincolnshire economy by conducting a major survey of county business leaders.

The joint survey is being conducted throughout January and February and the results will provide an insight into how local businesses feel about the state of the local and regional economy.

The survey was first conducted last year but this year’s exercise will canvas the views of twice as many business leaders and will cover businesses from all corners of the county.

Findings from the survey will be revealed at a breakfast business meeting in March at Bishop Grosseteste University.

“The state of the economy, both nationwide and at a regional level, is a key concern for businesses large and small,” said Tim Godson, a partner at Duncan & Toplis based in Lincoln.

“Our survey is a useful barometer of business confidence and will provide information which will help inform economic and business planning in the future.

“Our staff are making one-to-one telephone calls to senior business people across the county to make sure that the data gathered is as robust and accurate as possible.”

Questions in the survey range from membership of the EU and conditions for exporting to business turnover, profitability and growth.

By the end of February Duncan & Toplis expects to have interviewed around 200 business leaders, most of whom are clients of Duncan & Toplis or Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce members.

Simon Beardsley, Chief Executive at the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, said: "We are pleased to be working with Duncan & Toplis once again on the Economic Survey. The result will give us valuable information not only about how businesses across Lincolnshire are doing, but also about what support they need to grow and prosper in the future.”

The subsequent report will be formally launched at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln on 15th March 2013.
