News Release

15th July 2013

One of Lincoln’s best-loved hotels has another award to add to its growing list of accolades after receiving a 2013 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

Last year The Old Palace became one of just two hotels in the county included in the 2013 Condé Nast Johansens Recommended Small Hotels, Inns & Restaurants Guide.

And now, after receiving consistently outstanding reviews on TripAdvisor, it’s listed in the top performing 10 per cent of businesses listed on the travel website.

Manager at The Old Palace Sonja Brockman said: “We’re really pleased with this latest award win. The whole team works incredibly hard and this certificate is proof of their efforts to ensure each and every one of our guests has an enjoyable and memorable stay.

“I’d also like to thank our guests who have taken the time to write a review as without them we wouldn’t have achieved this honour.”

The award follows a busy 12 months for The Old Palace which doubled the number of rooms available from 16 to 32 after converting an adjacent former Victorian church.

To qualify for a Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher out of a possible five, as reviewed by travellers of TripAdvisor, and must have been listed on the site for at least 12 months. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.

Vice President of Marketing for TripAdvisor Business Alison Copus explained: “TripAdvisor is delighted to celebrate the success of businesses around the globe, from Sydney to Chicago, Sao Paulo to Rome, which are consistently offering TripAdvisor travellers a great customer experience.

“The Certificate of Excellence award provides top performing establishments around the world the recognition they deserve, based on feedback from those who matter most – their customers.”

Notes to Editors

  • The Old Palace was built next to the site of the Lincoln Medieval Bishops’ Palace, which was the administrative centre of the largest diocese in medieval England, in three phases between 1720 and 1885.
  • The ruins of the Medieval Bishops’ Palace are separate from The Old Palace itself and are managed by English Heritage on a guardianship lease from the Diocese of Lincoln.
  • Once home to the bishops of Lincoln, The Old Palace is now a luxury hotel and conference centre offering 32 beautifully decorated rooms in the main building and the adjacent Old Palace Lodge – a former Victorian church which recently been converted.
  • Following the success of a number of pop-up restaurants for Valentine’s Day and Mothering Sunday the hotel has recently opened a new restaurant offering classic British cuisine every evening from 6.30pm until 9pm. The restaurant, which is currently open to hotel guests only, will open to the general public in August.
