News release

25th October 2013

An event which showcased the new age in smart devices and offered top tips on improving business has trended at number one on Twitter thanks to the onlincolnshire team.

The Lincolnshire County Council-run project ‘wired up’ this year’s LincUpLive event at DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln yesterday (24th October).  A dedicated team of 20 students, coupled with participation from audience members and onlincolnshire, saw the event’s hashtag #LUL360 reach the number one spot for the most tweeted topic in the UK.

Posts, pictures and videos on Facebook also reached accounts more than 2,700 times.

As part of the ‘wired’ activity, onlincolnshire also live-streamed all the keynote speakers as they took to the stage via www.onlincolnshire.org, with people logging on to watch from across the UK and as far away as Canada and France. Speakers included Redg Snodgrass, founder of Stained Glass, a wearable-technology incubator based in Silicon Valley, who brought a Google Glass device.

Other speakers were Steve Middleborough, Director of Engineering at Siemens, and Wayne Gibbins, an associate at funding company Notion Capital.

Short clips from the project’s Lincolnshire Technology Hubs were also broadcast via online channels throughout the day, while a slideshow displayed photos of events onlincolnshire has helped bring to the masses. Video clips and interviews were also added to the onlincolnshire YouTube channel throughout the day.

Councillor Colin Davie, Executive Member for Economic Development at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “The success of this event just shows that Lincolnshire’s time has come. This has been one of the most popular events we have ‘wired’.  It provided the perfect setting to help demonstrate the power of the internet and the work we have been doing to help people across the county get better connected.”

The activity is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

LincUpLive, entitled ‘Tomorrow’s Business: Innovation Growth Regeneration’, provided delegates with tips and advice on how to keep up with and embrace new technologies and business practices.

Organiser Glenn Le Santo said: “This event was our most successful to date, we are very pleased with how well it went. People attending were able to get some really valuable insights into how to make the most of emerging technologies and improve their business.  The onlincolnshire involvement helped us to reach even more people through the live streaming of the keynote speakers and the constant videos being uploaded to YouTube.

“Social media also played a huge part in making this event a global one, with posts being shared worldwide, including in Silicon Valley.”

You can view pictures from the event on the onlincolnshire Facebook and Instagram accounts, while the interviews can be found on the onlincolnshire YouTube channel.
