Toys and Treats Required for Homeless Dogs
News release
30th July 2013
Homeless dogs in North Lincolnshire are down in the dumps – but you can help to cheer them up!
Jerry Green Dog Rescue is reporting a slowdown in donations of treats and toys to keep its dogs happy, and the charity is appealing for members of the public to come forward with doggie donations.
“Our dogs are in desperate need of soft toys and edible treats,” said Lynne Vincent, who manages the Jerry Green Dog Rescue centre in Broughton near Brigg.
“We’d welcome any donations of toys and edible treats such as sardines, pilchards, hot dog sausages and training treats.
“Our kennel staff use these treats as part of the dogs’ ongoing training to positively reinforce good behaviour. Any meaty but soft items which can be broken up for treats are ideal.”
Rosie Myers, Behavioural Adviser at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, added: “Without the aid of toys and treats our work is significantly harder in terms of rewarding our dogs for their good behaviour.
“The dogs we rescue and look after are on a standard diet of Arden Grange food but as we are all aware, a yummy treat every now and again can be a very positive thing for dogs as well as for people!
“Our current stock levels of toys and treats are very low so we are calling on our generous supporters to help us with donations.”
She added: “We try to ensure that the dogs staying with us have a positive environment while awaiting adoption and we also try to emulate the home environment as much as possible.
“We must supply them with a selection of toys in order to keep the dogs happy and interactive.”
If you would like to make a donation of toys or edible treats you can take your items to the North Lincolnshire centre in Broughton (DN20 0BJ) or use the Jerry Green Dog Rescue collection bins at Tesco, Morrisons or Asda in Scunthorpe.
Notes to editors:
Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations:
- Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
- Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire
- Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire
- Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
- Thirsk, North Yorkshire
Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
