Transport and Taxes High on the Lincoln Business Agenda

Park and ride and PAYE were just two of the issues put to MP Karl McCartney and Leader of City of Lincoln Council Ric Metcalfe at a recent question and answer style meeting hosted by the Lincoln Business Club.
Over 60 people attended the club’s monthly meeting at Lincoln City Football Club to quiz the two city leaders about issues affecting businesses in the city.
One of the questions asked was about the introduction of a park and ride scheme in the city and why it’s taking so long to do anything about it.
MP Karl McCartney said he was disappointed the scheme had been put on hold by Lincolnshire County Council.
“I have said for some time that Lincoln would benefit in many ways from a well thought out, holistic and well-funded park and ride scheme. I also think Burton Waters Marina would be a better location than Carholme Road as people could either park and ride or park and sail.”
As well as taking questions from the floor Mr McCartney and Councillor Metcalfe were also given the opportunity to set out their priorities for Lincoln.
Council Leader Ric Metcalfe said: "Growing the local economy is a top priority for the City of Lincoln Council. I am delighted to have had the opportunity to discuss how we can achieve this with leading local business representatives."
Richard Hare, Chairman of Lincoln Business Club, said he hoped this would be the first of many open forum sessions with local leaders and policy makers:
“Having our local MP and council leader at our meeting for a Q&A was an excellent opportunity for Lincoln business owners to voice their opinions to the most important people for change – our local representatives,” said Richard.
“We were delighted with the turnout to the meeting and received some really positive feedback from our members and the politicians. Following the success of the event we hope to repeat it next year and in the meantime it will be interesting to see if any of the comments people have any impact.”
Lincoln Business Club is a not-for-profit, voluntary organisation that provides networking opportunities for the city’s business community.
The club meets at Lincoln City Football Club on the last Friday of every month. The next meeting will be on Friday 30th June at 7am. You don’t have to be a member to attend and entrance costs just £3.
