News Release

27th November 2012

Consulting engineering firm Waldeck, which relocated its mechanical and electrical division to Sheffield earlier this year, has taken on a further two engineers in response to its increasing workload.

The multi-disciplinary firm, which has 10 offices across the UK, now employs nine staff at its Sheffield location based in the Quadrant on Parkway Avenue.

The latest additions to the team – Steve Rowe from Barnsley and Craig Harrison from Sheffield – have over 30 years’ experience between them in the building services sector.

Steve has been appointed as Senior Electrical Engineer and prior to this spent six years working in a similar role for a leading design and engineering consultancy based in Leeds.

Craig has joined the Waldeck team as a Mechanical Engineer and has 12 years’ experience in building services engineering.

Steve said having worked alongside a number of his colleagues at Waldeck in the past he was able to hit the ground running.

“I’ve worked with Craig, Ged and the majority of the team before at a different company so we all know each other really well and understand how we each work which really helps when you’re joining a relatively new team,” he said.

“We don’t have to spend time getting used to each other or finding out what our individual skill sets are as we already have a good idea of our strengths and expertise.”

Craig added: “Waldeck’s Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Division undertakes a lot of work in the custodial and mental health sectors where Steve and I have a lot of experience..

“Waldeck is a progressive company and the mechanical and electrical division has built up an impressive client list in a short space of time more or less from a standing start.”

The Sheffield office is headed up by Ged Smith who was brought in to set up the new division in April.

“The expansion of our Sheffield operation is good news for our clients as it means we’ve been able to increase our capacity, skills and experience,” explained Ged. “Our staff have worked across a range of industries including health, education and logistics as well as commercial and residential property development, and our client basis reflects this.

“However, we’re not going to sit back and rest on our laurels. Our aim is to keep growing at a reasonable rate and create more jobs for local people. We’re particularly keen on bringing new blood into the sector and addressing the skills shortage by employing talented youngsters and training them up.”

Managing Director Fraser Mercer added: “With the addition of mechanical and electrical engineering to our list of services we can now provide all things engineering under one roof.

“As well as speeding up communication and enhancing the quality of the whole offering, as you would expect from Waldeck, being able to offer building services engineering also gives us further scope to create innovation and value for our clients.”
