News Release

9th August 2011

Engineering consultancy firm Waldeck is giving staff at David Wilson Homes in Northampton a head start as they attempt to scale the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours.

Waldeck, which has nine offices across the UK including one in Northampton, is sponsoring the team by providing them with much-needed equipment to help them complete the Three Peaks Challenge.

Ten employees from David Wilson Homes (DWH), which is part of the Barratt Home Group, will be taking part in the mountaineering event along with 90 others on 16thSeptember 2011.

Andy Preston, Commercial Director for DWH South Midlands, who is participating in the challenge, said: “The idea came about following a casual conversation between me and my colleagues and Paul Whelan from MV Kelly, over a few drinks I hasten to add!

“We’ve also set ourselves a second target as part of the original Three Peaks Challenge - raising £30,000 for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital!”

To help with their mission Waldeck will be supplying the walkers with rucksacks and woolly hats.

Associate Director for Waldeck Tony Chapman, who is based at their office in Newton House on Northampton Science Park, said: “When we heard that Andy and his colleagues were attempting to climb Snowdonia, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis for charity we were keen to support them.

“Waldeck and David Wilson Homes have worked closely together in the past on a number of housing developments in the town including Banbury Lane and we are keen for our relationship to grow even stronger.

“The construction industry, like many others, has faced great difficulties as a result of the global recession and although this is a different sort of challenge, it’s something really positive and we’re keen to get involved in any way we can.”

Tony and his colleague Martin Osborne will be presenting the equipment to the team at David Wilson Homes’ South Midlands Office on the Riverside Business Park in Northampton, on 10thAugust.

Martin, who has already completed the Three Peaks Challenge as well as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, said: “The task is undeniably difficult but the money raised is going to a fantastic cause. I am hoping that following my experience I can provide the team with some motivational help and advice.”

David Wilson Homes and MV Kelly have jointly set up a JustGiving page www.justgiving.com/mvk for anyone wishing to donate.

Donations can also be made by sending a cheque or postal order to Andy Preston, DWH South Midlands, 1A Fortune Close, Riverside Business Park, Northampton, NN3 9HT.
