Monster Truck arrives in York for a taste of summer festival
Show In The Park, 30-31 July 2016
The world-famous Red Dragon Monster Truck paid a visit to Parliament Street this weekend to give local residents a taste of a brand new festival – Show In The Park - taking place at the Knavesmire on 30 – 31 July 2016.
Show In The Park is a new family-friendly festival which will take over the Knavesmire on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July, when the Red Dragon Monster Truck will return to offer visitors ride in the roughest, toughest vehicle in the city!
More details of the festival – including extra headline acts – have been revealed. During the day, visitors can enjoy attractions including stunt shows, BMX displays, circus workshops, a marching band, falconry displays and a petting zoo, whilst each evening, the Knavesmire will rock to the sound of top tribute bands The Take That Experience, The Ed Sheeran Experience (both on Sunday) and – as seen on ITV’s This Morning - Only One Direction (Saturday)! Party band Spinoffs! and local band The Mothers will also be appearing.
Britain’s Got Talent finalist, hilarious ventriloquist Steve Hewlett, will also be bringing his unique blend of impressions, songs and amazing voice talents to the stage on Saturday evening. Other quirky entertainment during the festival includes Granny Tourismo, described as the only shopping trolley dance display team in the world, street entertainer Dangerous Derek, and a mind-bending Vortex tunnel!
“This is a festival which we designed for families to come and let down their hair with their friends – there will be a real party atmosphere,” says organiser, John Lowery. “Everyone will have wristbands to get in, so they can come and go as they please – perfect for families with younger children who might want an afternoon nap before the evening’s festivities start – but there will be something exciting happening from 11am to 10pm each day.”
The wristband covers access to all arena entertainments and the evening concerts, and £5 worth of vouchers towards funfair rides, with additional charges for rides on the fairground and monster trucks. There will also be plenty of diverse catering alongside a craft fair and licenced bar.
Tickets have been priced to make them accessible as possible to all families. A one day adult pass is £12.50, or £20.00 for both days, with discounted rates available for children and concessions, and Under 5s going free. Grandparents attending in fancy dress will receive free entry when accompanied by paying grandchildren. “A family of four can enjoy 22 hours of entertainment for just over £60 including five live bands – that’s less than £3 per hour for a family,” says event director, Trevor Nutt. “The last act performs until 9.30pm each evening, so younger partygoers will still have energy to come back for the second day!”
Tickets for the Show In The Park must be prebooked, and are available online at www.showinthepark.com

Notes to editors:
Show In The Park is the latest project from is organisers York-based Events & Attractions Limited, which has been involved in successful events around the country for 25 years.
Please note that an event originally planned – an evening aerial pyrotechnic display – has been replaced in the programme with more live entertainment on the stage. New requirements for safety checks following the Shoreham Air Show incident, and the time taken to process applications meant that the aerial display would not have been approved until much closer to the event. Organisers did not wish to disappoint visitors if approval had not been granted.
