Record Number of Wind Turbines Serviced by Siemens Leeds

Constantly improving service techniques, the use of digital factory expertise and a dedicated team at Siemens‘ growing service centre in Leeds have resulted in record numbers of wind turbines now being serviced at the site.
Some of the Siemens service team are pictured in the Stourton factory, alongside several wind turbines currently being serviced; these turbines alone have a collective weight of around 64 tonnes and between them are capable of powering around 2000 UK homes.
Gary Husband is Siemens business manager (wind service) and he commented: “By using lean techniques and establishing best practices at Leeds, we have increased the number of units we can assemble and service for customers. Our faster turnarounds are bringing huge benefits for those customers operating wind turbines. Leeds is an established authorised service centre for Winergy gear units, which means we conform to very strict quality processes and procedures meeting the required specifications in servicing and re-assembly.“
With increasing UK demands for moving away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy and the growing numbers of onshore and offshore wind farms, this Siemens service centre will be at the forefront of maintaining Britain’s developing renewable energy programme.
