Sikich Receives Prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — August 20, 2012 — Sikich LLP, a leading accounting, advisory, technology and managed services firm, has been honored with the 2012 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility. The prestigious award, part of the national When Work Works project, highlights the top 20 percent of businesses nationwide that use flexibility to yield positive business results and help employees succeed.
“Our employees are crucial to the growth and success of the firm, which is why we provide workplace flexibility—to keep them engaged and connected while on the job, while contributing to a healthy work-life balance,” said Janel O’Connor, director of human capital at Sikich. “We are thrilled to receive the influential Alfred P. Sloan Award, and will continue delivering only the best employment experience through workplace flexibility.”
Sikich received the award for both its corporate headquarters in Naperville, Ill. and its downtown Chicago location, and the firm is one of only 15 companies in the Chicagoland market to receive the award. Both offices encourage workplace flexibility—from flexible hours to part-time working arrangements—to help the firm remain competitive, while providing valuable benefits to employees as well. In fact, all employees can connect outside the office using a company-wide instant messaging system and internal social network, making telecommuting simple and a feasible option for many employees as well.
“Our research consistently finds that employees in effective and flexible workplaces have greater engagement on the job and greater desire to stay with their organization,” said Ellen Galinsky, president of Families and Work Institute, which administers the awards with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). “In addition, they report lower stress levels and better overall health.”
The Sloan Awards are unique for their rigorous, two-step selection process, which involves an evaluation of employers’ flexibility programs and practices, and a confidential employee survey. All applicants are measured against national norms from the National Study of Employers.
The national When Work Works project, an ongoing initiative of the Families and Work Institute and SHRM, educates the business community on the value of workplace flexibility by sharing research and promising practices, and conducting the annual Sloan Awards.
