Classics race away at Silverstone sale
A rare 1968 barn find Maserati Ghibli selling for a stunning £31,625, more than double its pre-sale estimate, was just one of 38 amazing cars to find new homes at the Silverstone Auctions hosted, International Trophy Sale.
In total, 62 percent of the 61 lots were successfully hammered away for a premium inclusive total of more than £900,000.
But it wasn’t just the Ghibli which exceeded pre-sale expectations. Other cars to sell for more than their upper estimates included a 1968 Ford Mustang 390 Bullitt, selling for £56,900, a striking 1986 Ferrari Testarossa, fetching £68,660, a unique 1975 Maserati Merak by Saurer, which was hammered away for £45,700, and a diminutive 1961 BMW Isetta 300, which sold for £21,850.
“This was our first sale of 2013 at Silverstone so it’s terrific to mark our return in such an emphatic manner,” comments Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions. “The collection we pulled together not only looked superb, but lots were sensibly guided which was reflected in these great results.”
Indeed, other notable lots included a 1964 Ferrari 330GT Series 1, which sold for £89,380, a 1971 Porsche 911 2.2S, which fetched £82,100 and a 1967 Karmann Ghia ‘Razor Edge’, selling for £26,450.
Two wheel fans were also well catered for, with both Ducati motorcycles on offer successfully sold. The first, a 2009 1098R Monoposto sold for £11,500, while a 2008 Monster S4RS was snapped up for just over £5,175.
“Once again, we’ve managed to achieve some excellent returns for our vendors,” added Nick. “And with just 50 spaces available for our next sale at the Silverstone Classic on 27th July, I’d urge anyone considering entering a consignment to contact our team as soon as possible.”
