Classics race away at the Silverstone Classic Sale

With an amazing sales rate of 89 percent of the classic and road cars on offer, along with the sale of a further 13 competition cars, Silverstone Auctions achieved a fantastic premium inclusive total of £1.1m at its latest event, the Silverstone Classic Sale.

The sale formed part of the Silverstone Classic weekend, and is the first of three sales to be held by the company this summer, which will include two high profile auctions at Chris Evans’ CarFest events in aid of Children in Need.

“The collection of cars we put on offer looked absolutely stunning, so it’s very pleasing that this was met with such strong demand and interest,” comments Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions. “Our team of experts guided the cars very sensibly which was reflected in the high sales rate achieved.”

While several vehicle manufacturers were represented with multiple lots, demand was strong across the entire sale, which featured classic road cars as well as some more modern supercars. Indeed, highlights of the sale included a stunning 1959 Jaguar XK150 drophead coupe which fetched £67,760, an extremely rare 1960 Austin Seven 850 which sold for £24,080, and a 1996 Lamborghini Diablo VT for £59,360.

Fittingly at the home of British motorsport, the sale also included a number of impressive competition cars including a 2008 Ferrari F430 GT3 race car which sold for £76,720, more than £11,000 over its pre-sale estimate, as well as a 2003 Ferrari 360 Challenge for £34,720.

“Once again, we’ve managed to demonstrate a fantastic level of service and return for both buyers and sellers alike,” added Nick. “And with two further sales planned this summer at Chris Evans’ CarFest events, anyone thinking of selling their classic would benefit from some fantastic exposure that these events are likely to bring. However, as entries into these sales are limited, I would urge potential vendors to contact the team to secure their entry as soon as possible.”
