It’s ‘drivetime’ again for ex-Chris Evans Mini

A Mini once owned by radio DJ and TV presenter Chris Evans is aiming to raise pots of money for BBC Children in Need when it is auctioned at CarFest by Silverstone Auctions.

As well as having a celebrity ex-owner, this 1964 Austin Mini Mk I has been built to Cooper specification and is estimated at just £6,000 to £8,000. It will go under the hammer at CarFest North on Sunday 4th August at Oulton Park, Cheshire.

Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “It’s a lovely little car in its own right, but this 1964 Austin Mini has the added attraction of once being the pride and joy of household name Chris Evans.

“I’m sure that this celebrity status will add to its appeal, although the lucky new owner will struggle to listen to Chris on his popular breakfast radio show on their way to work as it doesn’t have a radio!”

In 2003, the car was professionally restored by an employee at a leading classic car restoration specialist in Kent. He bored out the engine from 850cc to 998cc and made a number of significant upgrades.

These included a new exhaust system, disc brakes, dry suspension and an original British Leyland straight cut gearbox to name but a few. If that wasn’t enough then there’s also a large number of bills and receipts in the history file.

Meanwhile, Chris Evans himself has spoken very highly of the way it drives and how much fun he had behind the wheel.

More recently it has been stored in a temperature controlled garage by the current vendor.
