Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire plays host to CarFest North on 8th and 9th September and once again Silverstone Auctions will be helping to raise money for BBC Children In Need with its ‘Pride & Joy’ car auction.

To make sure the maximum number of cars are sold for the highest possible price, Silverstone Auctions has been careful to select only those models which stand the best chance of boosting the coffers for the very worthy cause, whether it is because of their affordable price, fascinating history or stunning performance.

Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, explains: “The ‘Pride & Joy’ auction is a great opportunity for anyone enjoying the weekend’s activities to drive away in their own classic car.

“We’ve consciously made sure that a variety of models are within reach of as many potential bidders as possible wanting to do their bit for BBC Children In Need. Indeed, many could sell for under £10,000.

“However, we also know that to raise lots more money for charity we need a significant collection of cars aimed at serious enthusiasts where driving pleasure comes first and foremost.”

Particularly noteworthy of the cars with an estimate price under £10,000 is a 1960 Morris Mini Minor which has appeared in a television advert alongside Twiggy and become so famous that Corgi even made a model of it. It is estimated at between £7,000 to £9,000.

Also worthy of mention is a multiple class-winning, low mileage 1967 Austin Mini Countryman, estimated at between £12,000 to £15,000, and a 1990 Jaguar XJS V12 expertly built by KWE Engineering of Top Gear fame, estimated at between £8,000 to £11,000.

Other collectables, which present a very realistic opportunity for first time bidders looking to enter the world of classic motoring at a reasonable price, include a very rare 1967 Riley Elf, estimated at between £3,500 to £4,500, and a 1977 Triumph Stag, complete with recent engine rebuild, estimated at £6,000 to £8,000.

Meanwhile, potential buyers really wanting to show their generosity will have the chance to bid for a truly awesome 2005 Ford GT which can reach 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 212 mph. It has been estimated at between £115,000 to £125,000.

As well as the ‘Pride & Joy’ car auction, other highlights at CarFest North will include hill climb sprints, a car gallery, live rock ‘n’ roll music with headline acts Texas and Razorlight and a fine food festival.

Bidders need to register with Silverstone Auctions before the sale starts, while actual bidding for lots is either in person by attending the sale, by telephone, by leaving a commission bid or live online via i-Bidder.com.

Viewing of the lots takes place on the Saturday (8th) and until 2pm on the Sunday (9th) and is then followed shortly afterwards by the auction.

Silverstone Auctions has also managed to secure a limited batch of day passes for CarFest North which are now available to buy at £60 each by calling 01926 691 141. For more details, and to view all of the cars on offer, visit www.silverstoneauctions.com/carfest.
