Two Ducati superbikes for almost the price of one!

Lovers of Ducati’s could be rubbing their eyes in disbelief at two stunning examples that are so sensibly guided you could be forgiven for thinking it’s a ‘two for one’ offer!

While both are worthy of closer inspection at the Silverstone Auctions’ hosted International Trophy Sale on Friday 17th May at Silverstone race circuit, the very pinnacle of superbike engineering is manifested in a 2009 Ducati 1098R Monoposto.

Words alone do not really do justice to its styling and performance, however it is perhaps best summed up by Ducati who described the 1098R as the lightest, most powerful twin-cylinder bike ever made.

The collector’s piece being offered by Silverstone Auctions, and estimated at between £11,000 to £14,000, is the real deal and is supplied in an as-new condition. For that very realistic estimated price tag, one lucky new owner will experience the awesome power of a 180hp L-Twin Testastretta engine in race-winning Trellis chassis set up – all in a bike that weighs a mere 165kg.

Yet while all eyes will be focused on the 1098R, there’s another model from the famed Italian stable that, if it was not in the same auction, would be creating a buzz by itself in the motorcycle world among Ducati aficionados and collectors when they learn it’s up for auction.

That’s because sharing the limelight is a 2008 Ducati Monster S4R S Testastretta. It has also been given a very realistic estimate, this time at between £5,000 to £7,000.

Again, superlatives do not come close to describing the sheer essence, looks and performance of this particular example, which is considered quite rare due to its exemplary condition.

For those who do want to crunch the numbers, then it boasts 130hp delivered through a capable 6-speed gearbox. Again its super light, weighing just 177kgs.

Bidders should be aware that for both lots are registered in Singapore and therefore they require import duty to be paid on the overall price at the UK rate of 20 percent if it remains in the EU.
